Author Topic: Beijing Olympics, Fire Works faked on television?  (Read 1863 times)

I read in a few magazines that the Beijing Olympics fireworks were faked on television using CGI. In fact the animators had been working on the 55 second video for a while, adding smog and even making the camera shake to make it realistic. Apparently they really did let off the fireworks afterwards. They only showed the fake one on TV, because the fireworks may have been too large and posed a danger for camera crews filming above.

Anyone else know this? I only found out the other day...

Sounds like something among the lines of "The moon landing was fake..."

I think it was. But its not about that. Besides, Im not saying the fireworks didn't happen. They just showed you a fake to prevent aerial camera damage.

Seems like a lot of work for little pay off. Oh no, our fireworks weren't the greatest thing ever! And now they have to deal with it being exposed.

Good job China.

Actually they filmed it a week or so before hand because it was apparently going to rain. But still its a country led by commies and handicaps.

They announced on TV as it was happening that in the opening ceremony the video of the fireworks forming footprints walking towards the stadium were done using CGI because it wouldn't be possible to actually film from a helicopter. All the other fireworks were genuine though, and i'm pretty sure they did the footprints one for real at one point, just not the time you saw it for the opening ceremony.

I thought there was something fishy about those footprint fireworks. I really didn't care, because my uncles wedding was about to happen and I WAS RINGMAN :D

the little girl also mimed cause the real singer was deemed too 'ugly'
