To be fair, applying the term "Shut up" to a literal sense, as you are doing here, is loving dumb. I don't know about you, but when I stop talking I don't necessarily shut my mouth, nor do I point it upwards. I believe the phrase you're thinking of is the slightly less common phrase "Stop expelling air from your lungs whilst vibrating your vocal chords."

It seems that introductions on this forum make the person either become loved or hated instantly.

I can't remember the name, but some guy a few days ago posted and was saying like "I hope I become a respected member, I'll do my best" and all of that kind of stuff.
Everyone was so nice. Saying things like "Welcome to the forums! I hope you stay and have fun too!".

But it can also do the opposite.
If you come on here and type like you have the intelligence of a dumb 2nd grader, then almost immediately, everyone hates you.
