I think there are an awful lot of streets with no planning about what we are going to put alongside them. (see : what killed Venice)
If you want to go with the "I spam silly streets lolololol" idea, then we need to actually make them sensibly scaled and detailed for a "downtown" build. We also need to plan out exactly what type of buildings we want, and where, and how big. I think you said earlier that you wanted "houses." Since when are there and houses in downtown areas? Or at least since when are there at all large numbers of houses? All I ever notice are maybe some back alleys with a half-dozen small cheap homes along them and that's about it. Usually a street or two away from the main avenue, as well.
Also change the design so that there aren't double-thick lines, it looks horrendous. Also : yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions, white is used for same-direction traffic.
Also : gogo really short city blocks.
