Author Topic: Im gonna get an ATI HD 4870 X2 with my new pc for christmas!!!!!!  (Read 3880 times)

If all goes well im gonna be laughing at the face of graphical games! My 9700 and x1650 can go burn in hell muwahah. I can taste the high framerate already. Anyone else here own a 4870 or 4850?

I am getting an X280 for christmas :D

i am getting a Nintendo DS bundle for Christmas. it has 2 games in it they are......
sponge bob Drawn to life, Nintendogs. and i am getting one game by it self thats the sims 2 apartment pets.

4870X2 > G280 > G260 > 4870

What processor are you gonna get? Im gonna get an E8400 and OC so it doesn't bottleneck the gpus much.

I assume the rest of your system is up to spec? What else are you purchasing/already own?

Also, why not go for the 4870...it is easily powerful enough to crush most games. Do you even own a 24" or 30" monitor?

BTW, order is more like...

4870x2 > GTX 280 > 4870 1GB > GTX 260 core 216 > GTX 260 > 4870 512mb > 9800GTX+ > 4850
$550           $400             $230             $250

I have an ATI Radeon HD 3450, it runs Combat Arms and I am pleased with it.

only one decent game there, and it gets boring fast
and yes, i've played all of them

I'm getting a dual-core 2.55 GHz CPU, new motherboard, a new power supply and another GeForce 8600 GT to make SLI with my other GeForce 8600 GT.

Don't worry, I 100% doublechecked to make sure the two 8600s are the same. And they ARE.

what one is it?

Reactor Worker, the GTX 260 core 216 preforms better than the 4870 1GB right now. Nividia released new drivers. Still $30 more for a boost that doesn't matter much as both cards get 50+fps at high resolutions. But ATI is pushing out their performance drivers in December, which probably means they had them in reserve and were waiting for Nvidia. WTF

The GTX 280 and 4870 X2 aren't useful unless you have a 2560x1600 or higher monitor, even then the 4870 and GTX 260 preform exceptionally well.

And for the love of God, don't even consider a card that has only a stock cooler on it, unless you want to add your own. That might void your warranty though.

Can your motherboard support PCI-E 2.0? Does the rest of your computer suck? Does your power supply have enough PCI-E power cables? The GT 200 and 4870 series require two cables.

2.55GHz tells us little about your CPU.

I'm getting a different CPU cooler because on the reviews for my CPU, people said the stock cooler isn't that great.

I've doublechecked my stuff, my dad has (Don't even loving think for a second that he doesn't know anything about computers. I will rip your head off.), and my other friends too. Hell, RW picked out the parts.

O RLY? Too lazy to pull up page.

The performance difference between the 4870 1GB and GTX 260 core 216 is pathetically small. It makes more sense to go for the cheaper one (ATI at time of posting).

I own the original GTX 260 and have to say I am pleased with the performance. I'm only running a 22" monitor and the GTX 280/4870x2 just don't warrant the $200-$300 price increase.

Can't say I am having any trouble with the stock VGA cooler. I am considering water cooling the whole PC so I would get a VGA water cooling block then...but that is a decision to come. Would be about $600 to water cool everything.
