Author Topic: Artists Suck  (Read 2807 times)

Why is this in Drama? I'm sure some of you will get pissed as there are many of you here. If no one gets pissed move this to off-topic.

Artists blow. Simple as that. 99% of the artist types I've had the misfortune to meet have been snobby head up their ass pricks.

They think just because they can draw a pretty picture or make some statement that only makes sense to them they are better than everyone else.

They think they are harbingers of social reform, that their work will open the eyes of others to their cause. This is only the case in the art world. Very few times has a scientist, politician, engineer, teacher, corporate executive, or blue-collar worker been so greatly inspired by a work of art that it made them change; that's relative to the amount of stuff churned out by the art world.

Go make your pretty pictures or whatever the forget your medium is and leave those who get things done alone.

>:(

ouch, man

at least i'm part of that 1%.

I've had a girl in my art class that was a "snobby head up their ass prick" and holy stuff was she annoying. She was also somewhat of a perfectionist, and she used to go around the class and make fun of everyone's art and criticize it.

Ya, that's who I hate.

I Think you're generalizing all artists here.

That is exactly how one of the "guys" in my art class acts. And I put quotes around 'guys' because he is of the male persuation but not exactly... Um.... ah forget it, I think he is gay.

Artists that are overbearing and douchebags, yeah.

I always tried to avoid saying negative things about people's work. Because I never liked hearing negative things about mine.

Same, I may say something like, "That arm looks a bit wierd." And the person usually agrees with me, and then I offer my opinion, and it is usually accepted. But is he doesn't accept my opinion, I just walk away saying we all have different tastes in art. What I will never say is, "That arm looks like stuff, [do this instead]!" Which is what the guy in my art class does.

I never critiqued people's work unless they asked me, other than the occasionally "oh hey that's neat". I think there's an amount of respect you gain by producing good works of art, other people notice and they ask you about it. Also don't wanna see people give up if they put forth effort.

You shouldn't generalize all artists with the ones that have ruined your day.

Most artist use their talents to move those that are willing to listen,
be it something humorous to something touching.
Not as a title for pompous reasoning.

Anyone in any profession can be a kill joy, bottom line is pride.
Someone who takes a lot of pride in their work can take negative feed back very strongly
and this is especially true if the person that is criticizing them has no known artistic ability
in reference to theirs.

That's like someone trying to critique a doctor on his medical etiquette without having no prior
acknowledged practice of their own.

With that said, art is used in many ways. Not just to "open others eyes" and even if
that was what they were trying to do with their art, I can't possibly see how that is a negative thing.

Photographists in the past and to this day
have used their photography to bring help to what may have been an
unknown crises to the rest of the country and or world.

Musicians have used their music to bring people together, to unify.

Painters have used their paintings to signify change, grief, hope.

Sculpters have used their statues as tribute or memorials.

If you want to be more Broad with the term "Art" you could consider political speeches
as an art. Words used to bring hope and meaning to people who are in distress.

Any job has an art to it, it's up to the viewer to discover this.

So before you say Artists suck, you should consider some of the most renowned artists
that have used their artistic ability to help make the world a better place.
I shouldn't have to name them for I'm sure a few have already come to mind by now.

tl;dr
Artists do not suck, it's the "snobby" people who become artists that do.

i don't know who you mean, are you referring to a certain person?
