I'm hooked directly into my high speed internet connection with an ethernet cable from my router, so that helps, but it's all about choosing a good mirror.

Well laptop or not, if you have an ethernet port and an ethernet cable, just hook up the cable from your router/modem to your computer and bingo, you got a hard-wired connection.
There's really no speed difference for me (Comcast Broadband), but wired just doesn't do a quick disconnect or anything.

That statement is laughable; you're effectively saying getting something off a server in the Netherlands is the same as getting something from a server down the street.

What do you mean which mirror?
There's only one mirror for Blockland.

You just choose which OS version of Blockland.
You on a Mac? Choose the one for Mac OS X either in .dmg or .zip.
You on Windows? Choose the top one for Windows.

It's simple.
