Universities (or colleges if you're american) almost never close. It happened once last year because we had 6 feet of snow fall over the day before and during the night, then hail, then a nice layer of freezing rain to really forget things up. The campus closed for the morning and afternoon but opened back up in the night.

Hah, made me remember. my dad has this friend that lives up in Colorado, his sons want to build a snow machine and make it snow endlessly at their school so they get the year off
