You can get anyone's IP via a logger which I would think would be easily made like an ID logger.

Tell your parents that going online gives our your IP, this includes surfing the net, looking at picture, going on any product that connects to the net, and any software that does the same. The IP Adress does nothing except give websites a way to see who you are. Hosting is no less dangerous then looking at someone's flickr account.

Ok.

1. IP addresses are not like "Here is your house number and street address in number form" they are very very relative.

2. Whenever you JOIN a sever, your IP address shows up in the console. Whereas if you START a sever, no one can see that IP address.

3. In a sever of your very own you have complete control. If your mom is sensitive to language you can add or subtract words from the Filter list and Viola, never have to see them again. Also, if someone comes into a sever that is not yours and begins to be a.. Butt-hole there is nothing you can do about it. In a server that belongs to you, you can get rid of these idiots by clicking 2 buttons. You have more control and can censor what ever you want.

Also, on top of Dig said, have you ever been to one of those sites and at the bottom it states

"Find girls in *Insert City Here*!

That is determined by tracing your IP address. If anything Blockland is Safer than the internet. (lol)

First of all, i'm not stupid. i know that the IP address only gives the general area. For example, it might tell you "San Francisco" so i kno that. I just need some great arguments to convince my parents that it's safe. Thank you to all of you who have posted good tips. I will take those into consideration. Much appreciated

Tell your parents you have looked it up, and tell them that the IP address is given out whenever you do anything online. This includes surfing the net. (This should work) If it doesn't, tell them that the only thing that someone can do with an IP address is find the general area where you live. My IP says I live about a mile from where I do. :D

IP's dont really matter.

Infact they can change themselves on rare occasions and you yourself can change your IP.

So it doesnt really matter if they have your IP at all. Tell your parents that.

The server host can easily get all the client's IP addresses.
The client can easily get the host's IP address.
