Author Topic: Upgraded driver=Wtf.  (Read 1918 times)

So today, I updated my ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series driver after about five years, I was getting sick of the grey patches. Few strange things happened though.

First off, I went to Slopes to find no grey patches and a crystal clear view, but stuffass frame rate. Ouch. Then I went to bedroom, it wasn't so bad, but I had some serious 0.500 Millisecond mouse/keyboard game latency. It wasn't all that bad.

After that, I put it to the real test: Viewing the entire BiT Institutional Tower build. I went to Construct and loaded it, and after it loaded suprisingly fast, I headed to the roof and hopped in the chopper. I did a full 720 fly around of the building, and not a single loving framerate drop. I was amazed, as my old driver made builds kill my FPS. But I still have stuff FPS in other places (Slopes), and I never had bad frames with the old driver in (No bricks) slopes.

tl;dr I upgraded my driver and Blockland decided to reverse stuff. My FPS with builds were good, but my FPS with terrain maps sucked.

So what do you think, should I go back to the old driver and keep my Terrain FPS, or stick with the new one and have ass-kicking builds?

My brother got a new computter, and can't play BL on his new ID because it lags so badly ;-;.
Eh but more ontopic:Keep this one, slope is the worst out of the starting maps(in my oppaion[Bah I spelt it wrong])

Dump ATI.

I swear to loving god, I should. I should just get a commodore and done with. I'd be much happier.

Dump ATI.

LOGIC ERROR DETECTED

ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT:

Sorry to burst your bubble, but ATI is just as good, if not better than Nvidia at the moment. In fact, if you want the best price/performance ratio then get an ATI card...

under $100 - ATI 4670

$100+  - ATI 4830

$150+ -  ATI  4850

$200+ -  ATI 4870

$500+    ATI 4870x2

ATI is known for having either drivers that make problems or drivers that solve one problem but start another. And the circle goes on.

NVidia is simple. Plug in the card, install driver, boom-de-ah-da.

Is ATI not the very card that spawned multiple textural and graphical errors in blockland?

Doesn't happen with me, though.

I've found that ATI while a good card, is not good if you're upgrading your hardware, infact if you do upgrade to something higher grade (ati) its probably best to re-format your entire computer so that no trace of the old drivers, motherboard settings will "cross wires"

I just looked at 1682 or more bricks (BiT Institute) in Slate Fields without a single drop in framerate. I'm amazed.

Now I can actually inspect the entire building without vomiting from the lag sesiures.
