How to: Less chance of dead server

Basically, I want to find out how I can make my server so it's not dead.
I dont think it's the ports because I sometimes have my server running, but thats 1/5's of the time. Not add ons or a lot of blocks either.

Your IP changes alot. You need to keep checking it and changing it on the ports you forwarded if it's different

Does IP mean ping? How do I check it?

No, ping is the amount of lag. Did you even forward your ports?

Well I think some of them were. Cuz it is sometimes is dead and sometimes not. Read my message to the forum. I posted a new forum anyway on help forwarding ports.
