Author Topic: Moving install files to new computer for game.  (Read 1315 times)

Sorry for the weird topic title.

I have this game, it's a two disc game. Disc one is all the install files, and disc two is the play disc. I have disc two. I do not have disc one. I want to get the game on my new computer.

Is it possible to put the install files from my old computer on  a flash drive or something and move them over to the new computer and use the play disc to, well, play it?

well i don't know exactly but you need the install so the program can work on the computer, so any files you trans over to  anouther computer won't work

Anything is possible with technology

I figure it's worth a shot.

Except for the registry, doesn't a program need to be registered with the registry to work?

Use a USB and put the files where they are suppose to be on the other computer

I would suggest downloading the game and using cd key that you have.

1. Copy over the entire folder from the Program Files folder.
2. Find and copy the Registry key (start->run->regedit)
3. Copy all of that to new computer.
4. Profit!

When doing Registry stuff, do I export the whole shebang needed for that file, then import it on my new computer? Will it put it where it needs to be?

Hook your computers up with a crossover cable, if you have one, and transfer the game files that way.  It's faster than downloading it and easier than using a flash drive.

EDIT:
this is what a crossover cable is:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable
