What does an airsoft shotgun do exactly? Does it just look like a shotgun and only fires one pellet or something else?

I've seen both types - some that fire a bunch at a time, and some where you have like 14 pellets in a shell and it's just single fire.

my friend has one that you can pump more than once and its "supposed" to shoot more than one, but it only works sometimes it seems, so im going to guess thats not supposed to happen
