Those things are quite different from wearing clothes and makeup, I hope you realized you just equated putting on black nail polish to blowing up a building. Social roles are not only assumed, but they are also
assigned. Styles, however, can be assumed, but
not assigned. Do you call everyone who wears black clothes and eyeliner a goth? What if your mom wore black clothes and eyeliner? Would you call her a goth? My mom and my sister both do sometimes, are they goth? Social roles need to be in place so that we can distinguish important people from each other such as presidents and firefighters, but as far as the clothes we wear, what the forget does it matter? I don't have to be a goth to dress the way I do. If you wanna be goth then fine, I'll call you a goth. Hipster? Fine, you're a hipster. Emo? Go right ahead. It's not my place to tell you what clique you fit into and vice-versa.
