Help with RAM

For x-mas I got some RAM.
My parents wont let me open up the comp right now, But im wondering if its the right kind.
My parents bought me DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz/400MHz PNY 1gb optima memory.
How do I know if its the right kind? And, Are there any online tutorials on how to install RAM?

It's dekstop RAM, so if you have a desktop it should work.

And as for installing it, you just pop it in. Make sure you ground yourself first, though. Look it up online or wait for Otis or Reactor Worker to come along and tell you true stuff, this first part is just my guess.

Put in new ram (may not fit in perfectly. Make sure the side clips snap onto the ram card)

You forgot to tell him to ground himself. Do you know how much it would suck to fry your new RAM, or computer for that matter?

All your RAM sticks need to be the same size IIRC.

The only way to confirm compatibility is if we know what motherboard you have. If you don't know that, tell use the make and model # of the computer.

Installing the RAM is usually as simple as turning off and unplugging the computer, open it up, find an empty memory slot and placing it inside. Close, powerup and confirm the memory is working.

if your comp isnt to old then it should be fine.

older mobo's use different rams, that i dont recall what they called.
i believe the 122pins are the standard desktop ones.

You can't use dxdiag.

I got a stuff-load of virus's and it removed my ability to use Start->Run. :(
