Author Topic: PC problem any help?  (Read 1047 times)

I was putting in a new power supply I got for my pc because I needed a bigger one for a newer card I got. And I was really annoyed and fed up of constantly buying bigger PSU's so I just went out and bought a 950watt ATX coolmax PSU. I plugged everything in properly and when I turned it on only 2 out of my 4 120mm fans worked. Now one of those fans is my custom processor heat sink and then the fan on the top of my case one of the 4 120mm fans worked. The rest just did not turn on and I did not know what was going on so I quickly shut it off. Now all I got in there onther than the fans is a GTX 260 video card and a 500GB SATA HD. Now they told me the GTX 260 took alot of power but I dont think I could short out a 950watt with it because it was ok on my 650 just one of the fans did not work and that is why I upgraded in the first place. And now I dont know if this helps but the PSU is a modular here is a link. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated and as of now since I am on my dads laptop I will be on for a while so please help.

Stupid question, but did you make sure you plugged in all the motherboard power cables correctly when installing?

Yes double checked seeing as I have done it over once today.

short of dust cleaning the fans, get new ones. cheap and easy.

i forget up fans every time i gotta unplug em lol

Here is what I found funny. At first I had plugged one, four pin connector in to two fans. And I though maybe that would have over loaded it because the back fan did not work but the top did and those were the connected two. Also the processor was a square four pin bare in like a cube and the others were kind of like a line. My descriptions are bad but bare in mind, And so I started thinking maybe I over loaded one but then I looked that the bottom at my bottom 120mm fan and it was also not working and that was the only think plugged in to that cord. And I just realized I forgot about the graphics card I did not look at that yet either.

No but these fans were working this morning with my other PSU and other graphics card just after the GTX 260 and the 950watt they dont work and they are not dusty at all I blow them off with compressed air once a month.

Sorry double post but I am going to go get my pc and plop it up on the desk if anyone has any advice for me to check also if it helps my case is an Antec P182.

Coolmax?

COOLMAX?

COOLMAX?    >:O

Crappy PSU manufacturers make RW angry.

Have you tried the fans on different connectors? Possibly the molex connectors (or the rail that feeds them) is defective. I wouldn't be surprised...
