Author Topic: Hi, I'm curious about Blockland!  (Read 7973 times)

I am from ROBLOX, and I want to check things out here!
I have a list of questions:

Are the servers good?
Is the community good?
What can I do?
Is it easy to build here?
Are there good places?

Please answer, I would like to compare and contrast!

It depends what server you go on. Servers from respected members are great.
Community is great. No better.
You can build, take part in fun minigames like Deathmatches, Car races, or you can event and make things like computers. (http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=46896.0)
Easier to build than Roblox, in my opinion.
By places you mean maps, I suppose. You can create maps yourself, and a number of people have created good ones and posted in the Maps forum. The possibilities are endless.

If your curious, talk to an adult.
They'll tell you all the things you need to know, don't be shy.

Remember, its (sing) just around the corner, just around the corner...

Really bad joke based on this puberty video in 5th grade.

Anyway, just try it for yourself...

I have a list of questions:

Are the servers good? Depending on who's hosting and the latency. Servers run by trusted people and with low latency are usually the best. See below for more details.
Is the community good? Every community has its share of awesome people and total idiots. That means us too :(
What can I do? The possibilities are endless. You can build anything, add events to your bricks (That can do so much, including lightswitches, traps, and more), ride vehicles, play in minigames, and more.
Is it easy to build here? The tutorial can tell you how to build if you need help. Blockland also has different default key bindings for laptops with no numpad and normal keyboards.
Are there good places? In Blockland, there are no 'places' like in Blockland. Yes, this means unlimited builds. No Builders Club required, no monthly fee to get 10 builds, just one payment of $20 for one key and you are good to go.

Blockland's version of 'places' are servers run by different members of the community.

Continuing from 'Are the servers good?'...

It also depends on your computer. You need a OpenGL compatible graphics card, an 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. Hard drive space is most likely at highest around 500 MB depending on how many Add-Ons and maps you have stored.
I'm running Blockland at 2.66 GHz (Almost 3 times as powerful as 800 MHz, 1 GHz = 1000 MHz) Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM and a GeForce 9800 GT with 16xQ Anti-Aliasing (Anti Aliasing makes those unattractive lines at the edges of bricks and other shapes smoother), and it looks great, runs great and etc.
Processor power isn't much of a variable in performance/quality, but usually more is better. At least 1 GHz should be fine.
OpenGL capability isn't hard, if your computer was made within the past 5 years then chances are the graphics card should work.
RAM plays a big role. More RAM means more bricks. Be careful, though, there's no problem with too much RAM, but if you have a lot of RAM and your graphics card isn't powerful enough, you will still get lag in which case you will have to get a new card if you want.
Again, hard drive space isn't much too. My Blockland is about 500 MB, so don't fret.

Also, when or if you buy a key, do NOT, I repeat...

DO NOT 'LOAN' YOUR KEY TO SOMEONE OR LET ANYONE BORROW IT. Badspot CAN tell when your key is being loaned or borrowed to someone, and in every case of this he has deactivated keys that are found being loaned or borrowed.

Are the servers good? Depends on who's running the server
Is the community good? From my experience... No, but some people can be nice if you don't act like a total idiot
What can I do? Build, drive vehicles, shoot people, temporarily paint people, start a deathmatch so you can kill people or adventure the maps in search of secret areas to do stuff in
Is it easy to build here? This game uses the number pad (Should be to the right on your keyboard, i dunno how it is for laptops), so if you get used to that, it's easy to build
Are there good places? Places what? Like servers or something? ._.

Please answer, I would like to compare and contrast! Wat?

God damn I hate Roblox, the people don't bother trying Blockland to find out.

You hate it, but not everybody does. Anyway, this person from Roblox wants to peacefully see how Blockland is compared to Roblox. So as long as he doesn't come in saying "KILL THE BLOCKLANDERS" we should treat him like any other citizen of Blockland.

Yea I think that blockland is great! The thing is roblox has physics. BUT blockland will soon have physics too

Piece o' advice, change your avatar.

Actually, I have been on some pretty good servers from less respected members!

Heres some advice dont go to random servers and ask for admin.People hate that and they will ban you.

treat him like any other citizen of Blockland.
You mean we should flame him?

The thing is I am a fairly respected builder on ROBLOX and I am thinking about joining Blockland. Is there an edit mode where you can build without a character on the map?

Nope.

There is no need for that. Blockland and Roblox differ greatly, just download the demo and try Blockland out, stop being an idiot.
