Author Topic: Ping numbers ???  (Read 998 times)

Ok, im pretty sure i already posted this somewhere, but i cant find the post again even after hours of sheaching. So, ill post again because this is becoming quite a problem. When i click onto Join Game button, right away all the Ping numbers look like this ??? and do not change to normal numbers and after a matter of seconds all the servers are dead. The only way i can get on is if i restart the computer and quickly log on and start it up (that barly works as well). Anyway i really need help with this, so please tell me if you know how I could fix this or if its happening to you too. Thanks for whatever help you give  :cookie:

I am not sure, but I think the Ping numbers represent the connection to these servers, so your computer itself may not be port forwarded right. If you run on Windows XP I will tell you how to find your Port Settings. If you run on 2000/98 (Which I dought you do), Go to the http://blockland.us/portforward/index.html

That is as much as i can help you with.

I think it could be your firewall, if you have one, or your Internet provider. Also ping represents the time in milliseconds it takes data to go from your computer to the server. A ping of 100 would mean the data takes 1/10th of a second and a ping of 1000 would mean it takes 1 second, which is extremely laggy.

Ok, So if you are looking for a server, look for a low Ping, not a low brick number.

I "Duffed" that he runs on windows 2000/98 too.

No not necessarily, you could join a sever with low ping and a high brick count because the amount the game itself will lag depends on how powerful your computer is, not your internet.

You don't need to port forward to play Blockland. You may have to create some sort of rule if you have some handicapped router that blocks outgoing traffic by default, but I doubt that.

Windows 95 baby!
