Author Topic: Can I get my PS3 to work with my PC monitor?  (Read 2781 times)

So recently I wanted to play PS3 but I cant because my dad is watching TV and we only have one good TV in our house which is an 42" LG 1080P LCD TV. And I play PS3 on there whenever I can but my dad likes to watch TV  as well and so he brought up the fact of hooking up my PS3 to my PC screen which is an 22" HP w2207 monitor. So then I went and found some conversion stuff for the pc that I got from graphics cards and I had one from HDMI to DVI and I use an HDMI cord when I run my PS3. So I fired it up and plugged it in to my monitor and it said "out of range adjust to 1680 x 1050 - 60HZ". And so I tried it on my dads 22" monitor to see if it said the same thing and it did. Then I went in to the PS3 settings and tried to change anything but no success does anyone have and suggestions or have had the same problem but got it to work if so please share.

Your monitor probably isn't HDCP compliant. If it is, you're doing it wrong.
If it isn't, you can either shed $100 - 200 on those HDfury things, and then some more cash because you're gonna need sound, or you can buy a VGA cable for PS3.

- Not including all the stuff you need for sound, which will probably come out to around $20 or so)

That first link you sent me might be a solution but I am pretty sure my monitor is HDCP it is very new and cost quite a bit and it is one of the highest quality ones you can get. Is there any way to check if it is.

The box/manual.

The box/manual.

I am not shoveling through half a garage full of boxes to find a manual and then read I think Yahoo answers will have a solution I will try them first.

Ok how I plugged my HDMI cord into the converter which converts from HDMI to DVI turned on the monitor and it said "out of range adjust to 1680 x 1050 - 60HZ". I dont know what to do I though maybe since it went from 42" 1080P TV to my 22" monitor the settings did not change. So I tried to change them but still nothing please help. And adding to that there is really no way to completely change resolution through the PS3.

Wait what, what converter? All you should need is an HDMI to DVI cable.
Also, right click > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor and change the refresh rate to 60 Hz.

I did that the refresh rate is at 60HZ I checked but hold on I am going to get pictures. Here is a link to what I have. I got it when I purchased my newest graphics card.

I don't get any of these cables, pretty sure we have none of those in the UK.

Also, as for the other thing, the error also mentioned resolution. Unfortunately the PS3 has a really low res, but I think there may be some monitor settings if you go to system then to the accesories menu.

Sorry double post once again, but Vertzer I think I almost got it figured out. My friend said that my monitor probably cannot take the old resolution since it was so big any ideas on changing the res manually through the PS3?.

Plug PS3 into the tv and change the settings...

26 seconds ahead of you man. I dunno where it is specifically, but I'm mostly certain there is a setting. I'll look it up now.
Edit: What you want to do is to go Settings > Display settings. There's a couple of options there, resolution isn't quite what I expected but I think you can get it to work from there.

Thanks but exactly how will I change it, and when I change it will I be able to not see it on the big TV?.
