My name is actually inspired by "The Stainless Steel Rat" series of books, by Harry Harrison. I've been using this name for about 10 years now (I didn't get online until about 10 years ago, so I've been using it pretty much since I started). Anyway, in those books, the main character's occupation of choice is to relieve people of their valuables. Meaning, he steals stuff. It takes place in the future, when security is seriously beefed up. Also, buildings are made of stainless steel, and are nearly impenetrable. And yet, rats still find a way into these buildings, somehow. So, the main character was called the Stainless Steel Rat because he could find ways into what is normaly an impenetrable security system. I thought that was pretty cool. However, to simply call myself "The Stainless Steel Rat" would have been ripping off the books, which I consider lame, and there is no way I could live up to that name. At the time, I was small for my age, so I decided on "Mouse." But I thought that by itself, it didn't sound that great. I also wanted anominousness (yeah, I don't know if that's even a word), and remembered a movie (no idea which one, or what it was called, or even what it was about) where they refered to someone as "Mister X" because they knew he had to exist, but no one had ever seen them, or had any information on them. So, I came up with "Mouser X" because it was a nice mix of Mouse and Mister X.
In most of the other places I frequent, people think my name originates from Mouser, one of the bad-guy bosses of Super Mario 2. While I do like that character, they had no influence in my name whatsoever. And there's my story. I certainly think it's an interesting one. I at least put some thought into the name I chose. As for *why* I chose a name at all, that's an entirely different topic. But, it is for that reason that I always end with "Mouser X over and out." Mouser X is the personification of a character in a story I'd like to write someday. Where (and when) he hails from, he's in a highly technilogically advanced cyber suit. So, when speaking to people, the conversations take place through transmissions. Thus, when he's (I am) done talking, that is his way of ending the transmission. And now you know. Mouser X over and out.
