I'd like to comment that rap is not a genre, but a stupid thing that people like to call Hip-Hop. Rap is a vocal style. Also, often the music that people use to judge the genre of Hip-Hop really is horrible. But like in every genre, there is something worth listening to.

This is a hip-hop song from a sub-genre called Jazz Hop, if you don't like it, well fine, but at least I will have gotten my point across that there is at least such thing as hip-hop that is not horrible. Judging entire genres always seemed like a silly thing to me. Musical taste is all your opinion, but I can almost be sure that there is at least one thing for everyone in every genre.

I don't really have a favorite band since most bands have made at least one song I find unbearable.  I'll listen to basically any genre, and usually any artist at least once.

As far as my top artists go, probably RHCP, Metallica, Apocalyptica, Nightwish, Coldplay, Radiohead, Bear McCreary (Writes soundtracks, eg : BSG), MB20, Modest Mouse, Silverchair, R.E.M, Bad Religion, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Finger Eleven.  A lot of indie too.
