Author Topic: I'm get....got a new computer.  (Read 6807 times)

Well, I'll give your relatives credit for picking a decent DVD drive and not settling for a prebuilt. The charity ends there however. All the other components appear to be the cheapest possible parts available with preference given to off-brands and minimal configurations.

k

I assume they purchased and OS and PSU correct?

Negatory.

You had better not be planning on using that PSU included with the case, I'd hate to have to kick your ass.    >:(

Either I use it or I keep using this (gaming-wise) below mediocre e-machines/gateway computer. No money. :(

No OS? gonna use linux?

Should have asked for advice before running off into the sunset buying whatever cheap part you see for sale in the window.

Probably going to run Ubuntu until I borrow the copy of XP my dad has laying around.

I didn't have any say.

I didn't have any say.

So your relatives just said "lol, were getting you a computer" and that was it? It never occurred to you to ask if you can choose the parts?

RRRRAAAAGGGGEEEEE

By the time I found out, all the stuff was ready.

It's in the mail right now...

There is this magic process they just came out with called "Returning the product for a refund".

Grow some balls and ask your parents to send it back then ask them to let you choose the components. Otis and I are quite capable of selecting components for a decent build.

I know, but they'll just think I would be an ungrateful bastard. :(

It is capable of running the games I want it to, assuming it comes with a decent video card. I'm not asking for a build that runs Crysis.

By choosing your own computers (they don't have to know you didn't pick them ;) ) you are showing them you have talent as something other than a food processing machine. It also shows initiative.

I'm not implying that you need/want a comp to run Crysis, but I am sure that you can get a better PC for the money that was spent.

Probably.

I have nothing against your advice, it's just that I'd rather just go with the mediocre computer and not have my family get pissed at me for saying that I don't like it.

I definitely would have consulted you both if I had had the choice of selecting my own parts. :\

My one question is if it will be able to handle Source games and maybe NFS: Prostreet at all high except AA.

Really, so long as it is better than this, I'll be happy.

Trust me, you will want to get a computer that Otis or RW picked out parts with.
They helped me and bam, I got a kick-ass 400W PSU'd, 2.66 GHz dual core'd 9800GT running machine, soon to get 4 GB of RAM and 64-bit Vista.

IT. WAS. NOT. MY. loving. CHOICE.

Nobody gets this. I loving know that they can choose parts. If I had a choice, I would have asked them.

That mobo doesn't even have a PCI Express 2.0 slot. Don't expect to run any newer graphics cards at full potential. Seriously, just stand up for yourself and tell them, rather then simply accepting every little thing they throw at you. Judging by the other stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if their expecting you to run off of onboard 6100, and really, what are you going to run on that? You just want to run Source smoothly, you say? My 6200 can barely handle L4D. If you're under a budget, tell us the budget, there are plenty of people here that will help you.

Same here. The framerate is shocking.
