12Mbps? I doubt that's the measure of bandwidth, but that's the most I know about my internet service.

As for reliability of the PC, would this be network stability or PC stability?

And, do all computers need to be hooked into the router with an ethernet cable, or just on that immediate network?

Oh my bad, I was thinking of an dedicated internet server... XD

For LAN your internet connection doesn't really matter. Yeah, just hook up all the computers to the router (either directly or through the Ethernet wiring in your house.)

PC stability is what you need.

Okay, I don't have Ethernet wiring in my house. If everyone is getting internet from my network, can they still connect through LAN, or does it need to be physically wired in.

I would trust your answer a bit more if I hadn't started a LAN game between my two computers without both of them being wired through Ethernet.

One way or another, the computers you use in a LAN game need to be connected to a hub or router some how. This can be wireless or through Ethernet cables.

There are methods for connecting computers without a central hub, but for gaming (and for the sake of simplicity) a router is the best choice.

If your computers are getting their internet connection from your network then it is connected to your network (obviously).

I went to one Saturday. We have them one or twice a month.

They last from around 4 PM to 4 AM. We guzzle soda and play Left4Dead until our asses hurt from sitting.

'Tis fun. :D

Okay. Thanks.

Power strips, Ethernet, stable computer, cables, good seating/desks, bottled beverages, snacks, comfortable well-lit room.

Tunes?

Hopefully everyone is using headphones, so generally not.

LAN is your Local Area Network
Any computer connected to it will have really fast connection with the other computers connected to it.

As for suggestions for the LAN Party
Lots of cables. You'll need as many ethernet cords as people, and make sure you find a spot to put all the computers.
Lots of chips. You need something to eat! Find a food that doesn't stain your fingers and is easy to eat.
Lots of soda. QUENCH YOUR THIRST FOR BLOOD.

Hopefully you can find people with good computers, all people around me suck and don't really have good computers, they're into 360 and consoles, they know nothing about computers :(

Who did you go with?

Okay. Thanks.

I would say let everyone have their own music as some people just have different taste.
I personally love listening to either techno, classical music, or dream theater while playing games.

Where are you hosting and what game(s)?

I went to a LAN party once. We played some TF2 and CS:S, one of my buddies hacking. Was epic lolz.

What's a good space to have a LAN party in? I doubt I can get my parents on board with having eight computers running with 14-15 year old guys yelling stuff at each other hyped up on energy drinks and the heat of battle.

what game(s)?
Probably Urban Terror, just because not everyone is going to have TF2 and it kind of sucks with eight players.

A basement or an empty garage would be a nice spot. Basements typically are good because: A) everyone else is upstairs and not annoying you B) You can shout all the forget you want C) It's cool down there for those types of people who sweat when they play computer games (You know who you are.)

A garage would be good because; A) You can get the forget out of there when your mom comes screaming at you at 3 in the morning Sometimes there's a fridge (like mine) if you don't have enough room in your kitchen fridge, which you can store snacks in B) At night you can open the garage door to get fresh, cool air

I'm sure your parents won't mind letting you host the game at your home....just be really melodramatic about the dangers of you partying all night in some shady brothel LAN gaming center with rapists strangers.

If you like Counter Strike gold or source, and your buddies do too...
Go with that, it's never a let down.
Oh and if you have any internet/gaming cafe's around town it might be more ideal just to bring your friends there.
