Ok from my experiences at LAN parties with friends, the most important thing is everyone having the same game to play and getting everyone to agree to play it. You also will need a large amount of space and TONS of food.

Definitely, you'll want to get everyone to agree to a game and a list of backup/other games you can play.
Make sure everyone can run it normally.

I live in EST too, so don't worry about it too much.

Actually getting a working server will be a bigger problem. Form what I can tell, you'll need to install both the free dedicated server (FDS) package and the APB client. I'm not sure in what order, nor am I sure how exactly it works. It may turn out you'll have to host on another machine if you want to join your own server. You can pick which ports you want to host it on, but the whole hosting process doesn't look easy. We might have to push it to another week and spend this one trying to get it to work.

They don't have a master server like we do, so they actually manually post server information to some kind of in-game bulletin board I think. All you need to do to host a private server is post the IP on the forums where it will be unlikely for people to stumble across.

I've held lan-ish parties, where one group of people (5 or 6) are at one house (All my friends have bigger houses), and another half dozen connect via internet. Of course, the people on line get bored quickly and leave after a bit, but meh, you got your half dozen. I haven't had one in like three months, but I still have Ethernet splitters, and a stuff load of cords.

I'd suggest large amounts of drinks, get lots of zip strips (And duck tape), and don't forget do it in a place no one can hear you. It can get fairly loud. (Also, if you think you've got intelligent enough guys, wiring supplies. Nothing better then some guy in the back use a half dozen lamps to make his computer's inside impossibly light.

Also, at one I got everyone to play blockland via a LAN server. It was fun, we built a giant dong ship :D Which was promptly lost after I hit the power switch on my power strip, and we went back to play random games. (Kinda disorganized :D. However, we mostly played WoW, which I dislike. Sometimes we go on an xBox and play call of duty.)

Big problem too if you don't monitor it.

Make sure all power switches are out of feet/hands range and make a general rule for food/drinks near computers unless they will take the blame.
