Author Topic: Low FPS when I look at the ground. (Read 508 times)

Alright.
This started happening about a week or 2 ago.
Whenever I look at the ground on some maps, my FPS drops dramatically.
Example:
In BAC's plate, when I look at the sky, I get 35 FPS. Good, good. Then I look at the ground, it drops to 12.
This is not the only map that does it. It does it in every one of Ladios' slate edits, does it in bedroom with the ground outside, same in kitchen.
It doesn't do it in slate and construct. It only just randomly started doing it. I turned on my computer one day, and bam.

Please help, as all the bright maps are doing it.

Hmm I've noticed that Terrains/water in Torque lag, but you might need to update your graphics card. Hmm try a map without water/terrain and see if it still lags.

Like I said, it doesn't lag in either Slate or Construct.

Plate is kind of an exception because it has a visible distance of 5000, which leads to a massive amount of water being rendered (water is used for the ground texture) and the water rendering code is stuffty. Slate and construct do not have this problem because they have no water/ground. On my computer I only get about 100fps on Plate vs 750+ on Slate.

In v11 I have added a hack that prevents the water from being rendered beyond 1000 meters, which helps a lot (100fps -> 500+ fps on plate), but it won't do anything for bedroom or kitchen.

If this just started happening then you probably changed your anisotropic filtering or FSAA setting or something in your video card's control panel.

Wow, thankyou very much. I turned off both anistropic filtering and anti-aliasing in my video card control panel, and now I have gone from 35 fps when looking at the sky in plate, to 130, and from 12 to 40 when looking at the ground.
And this has cut my datablock loading time in half, suprisingly.
