Author Topic: I has AutoCAD experience....how does Blender or Milkshape compare?  (Read 2031 times)

Are my leet 3d designing skills with AutoCAD at all useful for making models for Blockland?   I've also dabbled with true Basic back in the day...and C++ for programming.

Know where I can get some info about the modeling and coding programs?

I heard Blender is the free one...and it's more difficult to learn than Milkshape, but the complexity is more of a pro than a con for modeling.....or something.   ??

And the only word I even read about scripting was "Torque".

That's all I got.

you could probably make the models for addons with autocad but I think you need a dts exporter unless it has one
as for the scripting I suggest doing what I am doing which is looking at the scripts for addons and working on modifying them

I use anim8or. I had NO IDEA you could models for BL with it. <:/

You should be able to use any modeling program. Just export the model into to something milkshake/blender can import. Then export DTS

im still trying to figure out milkscape someone got any info on how to learn to use it its confusing! :(

If I could get my hands on a recent version of AutoCAD....then you might see a model with an unprecedented level of detail.   I'm pretty excited to be able to actually use my schooling for something finally....never thought it'd be with toy blocks however.   =P

I have experience with both sets of tools (those for game developement and for CAD) and sadly the crossover of skills and technology is limited.

You will have to learn to use a whole new program and a whole new technique (albeit a more difficult one) for game development.

Milkshape 3D, Blender and 3DS Max all have plugins to enable DTS exporting for TGE and BL.

Milkshape is by far the simplest to use, but lacks many of the useful features and accuracy of Blender and 3DS Max. It is also only $35 I believe

Blender is free yet powerful modeling suite which I believe is capable of pretty much anything you'd need for BL. Rather complex and exporting can be temperamental.

3DS Max is by far the most powerful of the 3 but also the most expensive. Highly complex, but well documented.

Wings3D is good for beginners, but can't export DTS.

I'm pretty sure you can export to something Blender or Milkshape can import, and from there export to .dts

There is basically a pipeline from any format to any other format for the same thing, you just gotta find it and it might be like 9-10 exports and not very accurate.
