It's really easy, you have to create a Cross hair with a transparent background. When starting a gimp project, go under advance options and it will say Backround color and change it to Transparent. If you already have started a project on a non transparent background you can just Copy it and paste in on the new transparent project. Just go to the edit options, and go to Copy and then you can copy it to the new one.
