Just to piss people off... I'm an atheist and don't believe that there is a god (or gods). I personally dislike most forms of Christianity, particularly Mormonism. I only respect religions like Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism(also the Bahai Faith).
To include something else with my already twisted system of beliefs, I believe in Karma and Reincarnation. Religion causes more problems than it solves, end of story.

I get what you're saying, it's occurred to me, and probably others before. It just seems to me, though, that being part of a religion out of fear is totally silly. I mean, what if Shintoism turns out to be right? Then we're both screwed! I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying your reasoning is flawed. Dude, if you are an atheist and there is a god then I would be happy as hell. Hell to me would be if there is no god and I could not retain my ability for thought. Besides, what would a god be if not forgiving of any past offenses? To believe or not, the christian god is said to care more for if you are happy and if you make others around you as so then to be worshiped as a greater being. The main reason I am not religious is because the teachings of the bible have gone from morals to teach others to fear some deity because it would send you to a place where you will be tortured for all eternity. Besides, I would rather be wrong about God's existence then right any day.

Maybe it can work within the existing system of events, a natural way that the soul is removed from the body (if we have a soul, I hope we do) and placed within a new one

I would like to believe that if there IS a god, then it wouldn't judge you based on whether you were religious or not. I would hope that you would be judged by whether or not you were a good person in life or not.

...Let's not turn this into a war between religions or anything.

I fully agree with you. Shintoism is one of the religions I respect, and being part of a religion out of fear is... well, stupid. I don't intend to start a holy war or anything, I was just hoping that I could help some people out (disregard the "piss people off" part)

You are an ass. You are the reasons atheist's are given bad names. Shut the forget up with that. I'm agnostic, don't believe in the whole god thing myself, but to say to someone that their religion is stupid is the exact thing that makes you a dumbass yourself. Freedom of religion is freedom of religion. You can't tell someone that their religion is bad without making yourself look like an idiot. Had you said something simple like: "I don't subscribe to that myself" no one could complain, but you have to go and make a stupid ass remark that doesn't even have anything to do with the friggin topic. He make one remote comment so he wouldn't piss off religious people, not to start a god damn faith war. You sir give atheist's a bad name, and I will never respect you as a member of this community.
