Tf2 issues

Ok, so I am trying to download Tf2, on the games tab of my steam menu, It says Team fortress 2                Update Paused. So, I try and launch it. Preparing to launch Tea fortress 2. Next a window pops up and says updating Team fortress 2, so, Ok, but on the games screen it says Downlad stopping, then in a couple seconds it says there is an error connecting to the steam network, what's wrong?
