Yeah, I mixed up my words a bit there...I meant to say that the sun and earth will both be aligned "exactly" to the center of the galaxy, not actually IN the center.

The earth is always aligned with the sun. As in you can always draw a line from the center of the sun to the center of the earth. Alignment in the sense you are talking about takes three points.

Just a note. Jan third is the perigee of earthen orbit. The closest to the sun the earth gets every year. Also known as my birthday.
