How do I properly work on a diagonal? If i wanted to shorten a line thats on a 35 degree slope, who would I so that? I cant translate because its not line on X, Y, or Z? I would like to edit multiple vertices in a diagonal line without making them uneven I need this so I can get gun handles correct, especially on revolver type weapons.

Select an edge and change your transform orientation from Global to Normal at the bottom of your 3d window, and that'll help you move the edges and faces along their normals.

Just hit e, click to confirm and then click on the arrow and drag it along.

That panel isn't in 2.57, the mesh tools have all been moved to the toolbar (T in edit mode) and the Mesh tools more options have been moved to the sidebar under Mesh Display (N in edit mode).
