That is good only if you are making a texture that isn't a solid color. Otherwise just add a material

You can still do texturing from the material menu, saving plenty of time.

Yea. Just make a material the same name as one of you basic colored PNGs.

Is Blender easyest to use for a total noob such as myself? Or Milkshape?--I've seen a fair amount of those models here. Just curuous because I really want to get into this.

Blender has neat tools to use, but rather complex.
Milkshape has less neat tools to use, but easy, and costs money.
