Author Topic: The new and improved 3D model topic!  (Read 4641100 times)

im thinking about making a 0 to 100% tutorial on how to make playertypes (eg making playertypes from scratch including animations) since armyunit was a huge help when it came to making anims, but he can't spare the time often to help others
yes please do

This would save the lives of many of us!

Testing textures on the X-wing

Some issues, the most visible one I know how to get rid of.

so i keep meeting a bunch of people who want to learn how to model and every time i keep teaching people individually which isn't terribly efficient

im wondering if anyone's interested in either watching me stream modeling/animation specifically for blockland development, or want to do some sort of group lesson where i go over topics and such, followed by maybe an hour where i am available to ask questions for specific issues or scenarios. im not really a pro but i dont think im too shabby either

these would be conducted over skype, or twitch maybe if i stream. please pm me if you're interested, or post here. if there's enough interest i'll make a post in general discussion about this.

edit: topics im able to cover are item animations (thanks trog), uv mapping (not sure how to put into bl entirely but i can make some guesses), playertype animations (thanks armyunit), brickmaking (without dts collision; thanks leetzero and siba), and modeling/rendering in blender 2.77 (thanks trog).

itd be really cool to see someone brush over playertype making. i require a lot of custom bricks and custom playertypes, and while i have the necessary knowledge to at least start, i wouldnt know how to package it or how to tie all the assets together

I'd be interested for an HD tutorial on how to get a simple model in game, step by step instructions including but not limited to:
*version of blender/modeling software and where to get it
*the steps used to create a model
*how to package the model for use in game
*troubleshooting etc.

I haven't found a video that displays all those traits and it seems that conventional trial and error only deters players from trying to model in the first place. If they had a template, say a supposed video mentioned above, i'm pretty sure we'd see more polished mods from old and new users appearing with time.

It would be better if you could create a YT Channel and upload tutorials there, not everyone will be on to watch the streams when they're live.

Alternatively, record the streams and upload them to a youtube channel.

if anyone can suggest a good non-computer-intensive desktop recording program i'll do it. or if twitch does that already ill use twitch instead of skype

ive started making some posts about playertype making in mod help; i can turn that into a sorta help desk maybe and cover questions that pop up there in a stream or something

OBS is probably your best bet for streaming/recording.

Do you have an Nvidia card? If you do it might support ShadowPlay depending on the model.

nah i run intel

okay so im lookin to stream this weekend for anywhere between 2 to 4 hours straight. which day do you guys like more?

also please pm me questions or things to do/go over so its not just me doing stuff i need/want to do but actually showing you guys stuff you wanna see. i got some stuff i need to work on but the more questions the better cause its probably better for everyone if i show more than me just doing animations (i got a playertype i need to animate and im saving it for this stream)

the current plan is to just show you guys how to do playertype animations starting with a player model (eg not gonna cover modeling itself) but most people seem interested in either animation or modeling in general and not just specifically playertypes.

i could do that but that would take an hour alone, not including the model part

there's a ton of things that can happen and a bunch of things to watch out for, and everyone's workflow is different. it would probably be better just to cover how exactly to model and how to navigate blender and then do a q/a session afterwards covering problems people have with certain models.

edit: this is my first time streaming but yeah i got obs and will be using twitch to stream
maybe set up a discord/teamspeak for voicechatting as well if you guys prefer that over asking questions over twitch chat/chat in general. since this isn't some big public thing id prefer things to be casual and everyone watching to be involved and not just watching.

Use OBS, it's free and open source and it's really darn good

Yes free, no catch like other stuff "free" recording softwares, you get everything and that's that

I just started using blender yesterday, and I was wondering: how can I add colors to models?

also

credit the DanteRedgrave (i think thats how you spell it) for the original barrett m95 model, i changed it to a barrett m82
