so your saying that once you've unwrapped the model if AO can automatically be applied to it? probably only third party in my knowledge

All the faces are mapped in the UV editor, so it's possible.

You're going to need to blend the textures together.

yes, I do it all the time. I set a couple settings, set the margin of the bake, check ambient occlusion, and hit bake
