Thanks to the joys of college I got a student copy of 3DS Max, so I've been working on learning it all day today.
But you don't need to be in college to get a free student copy of 3DS Max...

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Autodesk Education Community, you must agree to and comply with the applicable Terms of Use and also satisfy the following eligibility requirements as more fully defined in the Terms of Use. You must be one of the following: (a) a faculty member; or (b) a student; or (c) an Autodesk-sponsored design competition team mentor or competitor.

A faculty member is an employee at a primary or secondary educational institution or any degree-granting or certificate-granting educational institution or any learning, teaching or training facilities and who upon request by Autodesk is able to provide proof of such status.

A student is an individual enrolled at a recognized degree-granting or certificate-granting educational institution for three (3) or more credit hours in a degree-granting or certificate granting education program or in a nine (9) month or longer certificate program, and upon request by Autodesk is able to provide proof of such enrollment.

An Autodesk-sponsored competition team mentor or competitor is either an individual who provides guidance, advice, coaching, or instruction to competitors engaged in competing in an Autodesk-sponsored design competition or an individual who is approved by an Autodesk-sponsored design competition organizer as a valid participant.

Yes you can get the software without actually being a student but if Autodesk comes along and asks for proof you're forgeted. I wonder if they'll bar you from buying the software.

I said not in college. I never said student.

That looks really nice! I love how smooth the whole thing feels! Are you planning to texture it?
It never fails that I start to burn out when it gets to the texturing stage (Mucking about with UV unwrapping doesn't really help either) but I plan to in order to learn how Max does UV's and textures.

Yeah I never realized "Homeschooled" was one of their options until I decided to grab it the other day, still it's better late then never.

Less bulky, maybe?

What's with the thing in the middle? Is it some kind of a black hole that sucks people in if they get too close?
