Author Topic: Computer randomly turning on  (Read 2430 times)

My computer will sometimes randomly turn on in the middle of the night. It runs off wifi, so I see no good reason for this too happen, no networking when off. Anyone have any idea whats wrong? Its kinda bright, so it wakes me up :(

Try pushing the button on your mobo to reset your BIOS.

Ah, I may have some sort of auto-turn on thing? Then why does it only do it like once a month?

Hmm, mine has a different problem that's a bit similar...
My computer randomly likes to put itself onto sleep mode during the night, even when the settings are set not to. It sometimes goes to sleep mode, but sometimes doesn't, which is bad because I need to charge my iPod Touch, and when my computers on sleep mode, it doesn't charge my iPod for some reason. It keeps charging my phone, though.

I still have not been able to fix this...

Anyway, to your problem, it may be because of something in your BIOS set to turn it on. If you can't find anything in the BIOS, take out the BIOS battery, remove all power from the computer, push the power button several times to drain all the power out, put the BIOS battery back in, and plug in your computer again.

You could plug your PC cable out on the night.

I'd rather not. The computer charges both my Sansa and my cell phone, so I need that power source. Also, I use standby quite a bit so that wouldn't work.

That may have something to do with it.

Perhaps you set it to auto-update the OS at night? I've never heard of that turning on the computer, but I suppose it could happen.

Perhaps try disabling some of the activation features in the BIOS such as the Keyboard input or network wakeup mode.

lol hackers got your PC and surf research while you sleep.

if you mean the monitor, just turn it off.

My computer does this to, except it turns itself on, and then off again.

It's like computer sleep walking i guess.

He might mean the lights from the systems onboard.
