Author Topic: What did you not know during the demo?  (Read 7938 times)

I remember on my first day, I ran around trying to paint the bedroom red. Saying like "Dammit, this game won't work!"
I didn't feel like finishing the tutorial, but I did.
lol'd.

I didn't know you could print letters on bricks, I thought minigames were tools for setting the weapons everyone starts out with in a server, I didn't know what f8 was, so when I was going through all the f keys and seeing what they did, when i hit f7 I was like "Ok, so now I know how to kill myself." Then I hit f8 and I was like "Holy stuff, I can fly around? This game is awesome! Oh wait... a glitch... I can go through walls... and I CAN'T LAND! OMFGOMFGOMFG I'M TRAPPED AND THE GAME IS BROKEN OMFGOMFGOMFG!!!" I was hitting random keys until I hit f7 again and I was like "Ok, so if I ever get stuck in that world again, I'll kill myself, and I'll come back to life outside." I also didn't know how servers worked, so when I bought the game, I thought the servers were just different parts of the game, and that there weren't actually other real players.

I didn't know that damaging only worked in minigames.
I didn't know what the printer did.
My first build was not made out of 1x1x5s, had small windows, a bathroom, a bedroom, a TV, a sofa, a kitchen, a driveway, and a flat roof, all within 150 bricks. :cookieMonster:

So yo thought we were all bots? We aren't that lifeless, right?

Right?

I thought add ons were unlockables. (not really in the demo but still funny.)

I didn't know my key.
I thought maps were bricks with textures over them.

I did not know how to print on bricks.
I did not know add-ons could be installed in demo.
I did not know you could mail money for a looooong time.

Right?
Until my second or third server when I realized what kind of game Blockland is, the only server/servers I'd been to only had two people in them, they didn't say anything, and I couldn't see them either. I actually thought people were submitting their own levels.

My first server was a zombie one, I spawned in a default minigame. Then I went into McDonalds and was like "Hehe, McDonalds..." Then zombies starting breaking threw, I was like "WUT" then they killed me. I told the admins to make them stop killing me. :D

I thought you could change your size using FFC stuff client-sided, and hack the game.

And yeah, that was like 5 days after I got the full version

I didn't do the tutorial, so I thought there were only the bricks on the bottom bar.

I never experienced the demo, but this thread is really enlightening as to what new people should know (I hope Badspot is reading!). It's been a long time since I was a newbie (4 years ago this month) so I never had the chance to have misconceptions about retail BL, especially since I was beta testing v7 for probably almost a year before it came out.

Keep up the replies, I think this thread has a really good purpose (making BL more appealing for new buyers, which is usually a good thing). :)

I did not have the demo.

I didn't know a lot of stuff...

Didn't know how to print (Until I took the Tutorial), didn't know how to hammer (Until I took the Tutorial).

Was sad about no brick scaling. Got over it. Thats all  :cookieMonster:
