Author Topic: Bones Is A Sensitive Boy, With Feelings That Need Acknowledgment  (Read 18320 times)

I only read the first post, so I'm just going to point out this typical internet scenario which I have seen many times:

Person A: I just bought product brand X! Yay!
Person B: You should have bought product brand Y instead.
Person A: :(

In this case, Person B is being a richard.  The only possible goal here is to make Person A feel bad about money they have already spent.  If you find yourself in this situation as Person B, you should just ask them how they like it or some other polite small talk.
This is in stark contrast to the pre-purchase scenario:

Person A: I think I'm gonna buy product X!
Person B: You should buy product Y instead.
Person A: Really?  Thanks buddy, you saved me!

Meh, I disagree.  If I was antagonizing Bones for his type of laptop, that'd be one thing.  However, I simply mentioned that I prefer ThinkPads.  Bones got all defensive about it, as he has done on several prior occasions, so I let him know that he needs to cut that stuff out.  I suppose it's hard for most of you to tell from one conversation alone, but nearly every time I've talked to Bones, he's gotten defensive over something.  Plus, he publicly admitted having a habit of getting defensive earlier that day.  I've got a lot better things to do than troll the internet looking for kids to put down about their laptops.  I don't even own a laptop.  He just happened to send me a link about the laptop he was getting and then he turned into a bitch when I wanted to show him the kind I like.  I wasn't trying to be a salesman or evoke any sort of "I'm better than you" vibe.  He just loving freaked out, and there's no excuse for it.  In any case, I'm certainly not the equivalent of Person B.

Ah, what this community does for ego.

Ah, what this community does for ego.

Ego is some sort of buzzword for you kids.  It's like every time something happens that you fail to understand, it must be ego at work.

Person B: "Uh, ego?"
Person A: "No.  It's gravity, you ignorant bastard."

Ah, what this community does for ego.
Yeah as Trader noted, you obviously missed out on what a ego is.

Chrono, I think you meant reputation

YES!  Finally!  Thank you!

I demand an apology for the intense flaming that I suffered for having this opinion.

Personally, as you can tell from that thread I made, I think that it's obvious that all bones did was defend his opinion and you started insulting him, started a flame war, so he got mad, and fueled the flame with gasoline, and then you blamed it all on him.

Actually, I don't demand it, because 1, no one will comply, 2, most folks on here don't like me anyways, 3, why should I care?

Woot, this made my day.

You're still an idiot.

Im going with BS on this, it sound more like an attack to me

(22:24:40) Bones4960: This gift is ordered. I'm not getting a thinkpad.
(22:24:49) MiZtrOh: man you are a defensive bitch

When you take it out of context like that, it certainly does.

I've got logs of other conversations too.  Let me see if I can pull some of those.

Bones' problem is that he wants to talk all about what he's doing, what he's into, and what he likes.  As soon as you talk about something you like, especially if it contradicts what he likes, the conversation is over.  It's like he'll only play nice when you're listening to him.

(19:50:45) MiZtrOh: hey
(19:51:00) Bones4960: Hey, man.
(19:51:19) Bones4960: I'm trying to figure out the mysterious studio version of the We WIll Rock You solo.
(19:51:32) MiZtrOh: meh, that song gets too much play
(19:51:37) MiZtrOh: there are far better queen songs
(19:51:46) Bones4960: I did not ask for your opinion.
(19:51:58) Bones4960: It's in our setlist.
(19:52:42) MiZtrOh: lol, :/.  opinions are great like that because they frequently come without warning and without prior request.
(19:52:55) Bones4960: Aye.
(19:53:08) MiZtrOh: but, there are far better queen songs
(19:53:14) Bones4960: I agree.
(19:53:20) Bones4960: But we're still playing it.
(19:53:36) MiZtrOh: pep rally?
(19:53:45) Bones4960: Concert.
(19:53:48) MiZtrOh: :/
(19:53:52) Bones4960: What?
(19:55:25) MiZtrOh: well, it's just that queen is so epic.  having the chance to play their stuff for a crowd is great, and i'd rather play one of their better songs.  like bohemian rhapsody, another one bites the dust, princes of the universe, don't stop me now, you're my best friend, etc, etc, etc
(19:55:38) MiZtrOh: pretty much any well-known queen song is better than we will rock you
(19:55:48) Bones4960: We got stuck with the opening band position.
(19:55:55) Bones4960: This will be our first song.
(19:56:19) Bones4960: It makes sence if you think about it.
(19:56:46) MiZtrOh: i guess, but using it that way seems a bit pretentious
(19:57:01) MiZtrOh: i don't want to be told i'm about to be rocked; i just want to be rocked
(19:57:24) Bones4960: Might I ask you something?
(19:57:30) MiZtrOh: always
(19:58:10) Bones4960: What makes you such a pessimist and critic?
(19:58:15) Bones4960: Where does it come from?
(19:58:31) MiZtrOh: i'm not a pessimist by any means
(19:58:47) Bones4960: Yes, you are. You seem to assume the worst.
(19:58:50) MiZtrOh: sure, i listed one queen song i don't really like.  but i can list loads of others that i love
(19:59:01) MiZtrOh: what assumption did i make just now?
(19:59:23) Bones4960: You might not have, but you still come off a bit negative.
(19:59:40) MiZtrOh: well it's hard to talk about something you don't like without sounding negative
(19:59:55) Bones4960: Then don't talk about it, silly. :)
(20:00:07) Bones4960: It's in our setlist. It's not leaving.
(20:00:29) MiZtrOh: lol, just because something won't change doesn't mean it can't be discussed
(20:00:50) Bones4960: What's the point of discussing it then? It's futile.
(20:01:10) Bones4960: Also, I agreed with you already.
(20:01:26) MiZtrOh: well, the point of discussion is not to continue until you agree with me
(20:01:51) Bones4960: [18:53] MiZtrOh: but, there are far better queen songs
[18:53] Bones4960: I agree.
(20:02:11) MiZtrOh: no, you misunderstood me
(20:02:33) MiZtrOh: i'm saying the point is NOT: to continue until you agree with me
(20:02:56) MiZtrOh: i just don't understand why anyone would choose one of the worst queen songs (and certainly the most overplayed) to perform live
(20:03:27) MiZtrOh: pep rallies are understandable, that's why i got that out of the way first
(20:03:33) Bones4960: As far as it being overplayed, it was a long time ago. It's rarely played today and out audience is young.
(20:03:49) Bones4960: the audience*
(20:04:50) MiZtrOh: well, when you become a big time performer, just remember that, while the audience is there to be entertained, it doesn't mean that you need to pander to them
(20:05:11) Bones4960: You just contradicted yourself.
(20:05:20) MiZtrOh: how so
(20:05:43) Bones4960: You started by telling me to play what they want. Now you say that.
(20:05:53) MiZtrOh: ?
(20:06:35) Bones4960: Anyway, this "argument" is still pointless and is wasting my time. I'm not the least bit angry, I'm just tired of discussing it.
(20:06:50) MiZtrOh: when did i say to play music that the audience wants to hear?
(20:07:17) Bones4960: I took that assumption when you told me to not play what the won't want to hear. It's the same thing.
(20:07:36) Bones4960: ANYWAY, I'm through talking about this.
(20:08:14) MiZtrOh: lol, i'm telling you not to play what i don't want to hear.  but, my persepective is a little bit different because i'm such a big queen fan and i have a strong music background
(20:08:54) Bones4960: Oh, so this is about you, not the audience.
(20:08:55) Bones4960: Lol.
(20:09:04) Bones4960: I misunderstood.
(20:10:30) MiZtrOh: right, who cares what the audience wants to hear?  i don't.  i'm coming at this from a musical taste perspective.  as in, if you're going to play queen, play something epic
(20:12:13) Bones4960: We're short on time, so something like Bohemian rhapsody will take to long to learn. Also, this song has the ability to get people "pumped" when played right. I can play the solo perfectly. We like this song. Obviously not as much as other Queen songs, but in the short time we have, we need to make good choices as far as learning curve.
(20:14:03) MiZtrOh: another one bites the dust shouldn't be any more difficult
(20:14:08) MiZtrOh: and it's infinitely better
(20:14:29) Bones4960: We don't particulary want to play a song about gunning people down at a school sponsored event.
(20:16:12) MiZtrOh: lol, so this is at your school?
(20:16:52) Bones4960: No. It's for a robotics team at our trade school. It's not on campus anywhere, but rules still apply.
(20:17:23) MiZtrOh: in that case, play 'why don't we do it in the road' by the beatles
(20:17:28) MiZtrOh: that'll get everyone riled up
(20:17:46) Bones4960: You might as well talk to my away message.
(20:18:01) Bones4960: He have a setlist.
(20:18:37) MiZtrOh: lol, you're so over-serious, you missed a blatant joke
(20:18:58) Bones4960: I'm not familiar with the song you mentioned. :(
(20:19:04) MiZtrOh: !!!!!
(20:20:31) MiZtrOh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Gjd_EAa64
(20:21:05) Bones4960: Lol, I've never heard that.
(20:21:07) Bones4960: Oh.
(20:21:23) Bones4960: I had a stress induced nervous breakdown.
(20:21:31) MiZtrOh: you told me earlier
(20:21:42) MiZtrOh: you said it had passed ;P
(20:21:50) Bones4960: Hmm
(20:21:52) MiZtrOh: hahaha
(20:21:53) Bones4960: I did?
(20:21:55) Bones4960: Lol..
(20:22:07) Bones4960: I forget.
(20:22:13) MiZtrOh: (15:09:34) Bones4960: Yeah.
(15:09:42) Bones4960: Also, I got some help for my recent problem.
(15:09:47) Bones4960: I'm over it.
(15:09:58) Bones4960: It was a mini stress induced breakdown.
(15:10:24) MiZtrOh: i see
(15:10:30) MiZtrOh: well i'm glad things are better for you
(15:10:35) Bones4960: Thanks.

Well from that log I can easily tell it's a reoccurring theme. Trader, you should try to lay you opinions down on him a bit more, say, lightly? Bones overreacts sure, but only after you push all his buttons. The tone of the chat is borderline hostile before it gets out of hand. You imply something, ok that's fine, but then you pick at him until he explodes.

This is not how I roll.  You message me, that means you're willing to listen to what I have to say, just as I will listen to what you have to say.  I may not agree with you, but I will hear you out.  Bones is just straight up not willing to listen to differing opinions, and that's not cool.

someone woke up on the wrong side of the box today
