Author Topic: 3d rendering (ie games) cause a BSOD (Read 1192 times)

Yesterday I noticed my computer crashing and restarting when playing 3d games. This happened twice, but it worked for a few hours while I was playing Team Fortress 2. I thought this may have been a driver problem, so I rolled back to the earliest driver I had, but the problem persists. Now I am getting BSODs, and one was right on windows launch. This is looking more like my GPU is forgeted up, and I need to know if it is. Everything except 3d games are working perfectly (most of the time), so I was wondering if it is or isn't a hardware problem. All advice would be appreciated.

Did you update your graphics card to test it first before the roll back?

video drivers, games, or entire computer that crashes after a while of gaming, many times are caused by overheating video cards or stuffty ram.
run a memtest to find out if you need to buy new ram, and also try finding tweak apps to adjust your video card's fan speed.

I was using the latest drivers, if that's what you mean.

The task manager is saying that nothing is shot, but I don't know what memtest you are referring to.

Also, I have been checking on my fans, and they seem to be very weak. I looked at the intake and outtake vents, and neither were clogged. Right now I'm trying to cool it down the old fashioned way, and I'll try launching something.

Opened case and A/C or fan blowing air out?

Does the BSOD say anything?

Right. My GPU has now totally died, and I am posting from another computer. Another is ordered, and is currently being shipped.

Welp, that was the problem from the start.

I dislike hardware failures. :(

That's what happened with my old 6800XT.
One day it just crapped out on me giving me BSODs. Turns out one of my 1GB RAM sticks was corrupt, but it only half solved the problem. I got BSODs only on some games but still was a problem so I bought an 8600GT.
What did you order?

Why do I always tell stories :| Makes me feel like an old person.
