Wouldn't that rotate the whole object? I have a vertex group ready to rotate. Can't I just use the armature modifier?

Well yes, you can. I just meant the mesh is parented to the armature and thats parented to the empty. Nvm then.

Ok, Im doing a Player model and I have a part of the needed bones for animation created, and I was wondering If there is a way to produce a mirror Image of the bones so I use it on the opposite side of the model. Normaly I would just redo it but its really complex (wings) and the other side is congruent in the model. I dont want to just remake it on the other side of the model because I wont be able to get it to line up the same way and that could produce animation problems.

DOUBLE EDIT: Nvm, I got it :) But Im having issues getting the bones centered because I cant see what im doing; can I make the mesh of my model invisible while keeping my Bones solid? Or can I change the color of the edges on the bone(s) so they're distinguishable from the wireframe of the rest of the model? Nevermind, i finally figured it out. :) (Ill use a different post next time I get stuck x3)

But if the whole object was parented to the armature, wouldn't the whole thing rotate when I rotate the armature?

Lol. Thats if you parent it to the object, if you parent it to the bones of the armature and then choose to create vertex groups then the bones will control only certain parts of the model based on the vertex groups.

Uh... ok, so I used the X-Ray option for when I was making my bones and when I went to turn it back off I still see the bones through my mesh??? >_> Is this something stupid on my part or did blender glitch or something?

Edit: it corrected itself, nevermind.

Does Blender support transparency for materials? (Still trying to make it so I can see the bones; I want it so I can still tell when my bones go outside of the boundaries of the mesh)

Thanks for all the help, I think I'm done the modeling part. But do you know if the dts exporter works with version 2.5? I just updated and am very pleased with it, but a lot of add-ons aren't compatible, also, if it is compatible, would I just put it under .blender\scripts?

Uncheck the X-ray, and use z to quickly switch to wireframe mode and back to solid mode so you can adjust your bones.

Don't know if it does, haven't tried.

So I guess thats a no, huh? Thanks for the advice. Just clarify for me, I need to use DSQ animations for a player model, correct? Ive heard that from several people and I just wanna make sure its true.

Im tyring to duplicate and mirror the bones I have already made, but I am having a lot of trouble getting it to line up exactly; if the bones for one leg dont match in size in comparison to the one across from it, but the difference is very small, will it be noticeable? Am I better off just redoing the other side to the best of my abilities rather than trying to mirror it and make it line up, or will it be terribly noticeable if theres a little difference between the lengths of the correspoding bones? I dont want it to turn out badly and have to redo the whole rig, and mirroring it is being very hard to make it line up.

Edit: Nevermind, I just decided to redo it.

Should I do the weight painting before or after I parent the mesh to the bones?

Also, When I go to parent them (im in object mode, is that correct?) I only get the option to parent to object or armature in the pop up box; you said parent the mesh to the bones, so I assume you meant armature, right? Or am I doing this wrong?

Question:
Object mode is referring to when you're not in edit mode, right?

Object mode is when you can only select an entire object rather than individual parts of the mesh such as verticies or faces. You see a purple-pinkish kind of line around the selected object while you're in Object mode. There are other modes besides Edit mode and Object mode so thats why I explained it; just because you're not in Edit mode doesnt necessarily mean you're in object mode. There's a bar on the bottom of the screen with a pop-up box that lets you switch modes; if you arent sure which mode you're in, check that.

Don't forget my question above, it's important. <:3

Alright, that's what I needed to confirm, thanks.

Also, this guide could get into coloring your model for the game.
