Author Topic: [Tut] Getting Heightmaps from GoogleEarth  (Read 2207 times)

Too lazy to make my own  :cookieMonster:

Basically this method will give you nice high resolution heightmaps with terrain elevations around the world.  You can get the data for almost anywhere on the globe. But not so much for the poles.

You'll need those three things plus some sort of image editing software.

* Google Earth (http://earth.google.com)
* MicroDem (http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htm)
* SRTM Overlay for Google Earth (Run from URL once you've installed Google Earth http://www.ambiotek.com/topoview).

After your done editing the tiff's resize it to a 256x256 png and put it in heightscripts of the editor folder.

Ohm nom nom, only real problem is the terrain isn't large enough to really be any use for this :(

I'm finishing up a part of an alpines heightmap I made :D
