I've been using 64-bit Home Premium SP1 now for a month, and it's actually better than 32 bit XP Professional SP3. What took me 45 minutes to convert a movie from .avi to .mp4 now takes 15 minutes.

Copying and pasting my entire My Documents folder on XP took an hour.
Copying and pasting it on Vista took <15 minutes.

Basically, 64 bit Vista is worth it.
I'm not sure about Ultimate though, but that's just me.
Just make sure you get 64-bit Vista drivers, turn off User Account Control and know your way around Vista (which will take a day or two maybe), and you'll be fine.

You suggested that it made life harder.
And theres a little thing called WINE, you should check it out, because you can get most windows games to work on it via WINE, and there are also a multitude of other programs.

I am aware of Wine. I am also aware that it isn't the be all, end all "trap card" (oh dear...now a yugioh reference) that you want it to be.

Why go through all the hassle of messing with Linux and emulators when you could just use Windows? If he were building a server I might suggest linux...or maybe if he were doing something that demanded the up-most efficiency. Not for gaming though.

Why go through all of the hassle of using a slow OS when you can just move onto a linux based distro and instead of being a sheeple, have it so where there are enough people using one that developers are forced to release a native linux version?
To get changes like that, you need to protest, but if you want to stick with vista and be slow, that is your own decision.

I imagine that all the time you save by using the "super-amazingly-efficient" linux would be squandered by needless hassle in getting your typical programs to work.

It's a natural monopoly...get over it.

@Zenthos, I can overclock my processor, and DDR3 RAM is not supported by my motherboard, if I am not mistaken. (Reactor, confirm pls)

Are you loving serious, Sheezy? It takes a lot of handicapation to get a virus. And Linux is simply not friendly towards gaming. I can and probably will dual boot, but there is no reason for my not to buy a copy of Vista.

I do agree that common sense is the best anti virus but irregardless, there are still ways to get them.

Uh, what?

Viruses, and malware in general, happen if you are a handicapped forget who downloads files and opens any email from a suspicious site without using proper security programs that don't take up as much resources and isn't a clusterforget, such as AVG Free.

Yes there are. Boshi once linked me to a trojan, but once I discovered it it was purged with a simple virus scan. And Gen. Nick, I am very familiar with Vista.
