Roommate gone bad.

I'm not really asking for advice. I just wanted to share what happened.

So, one of my mom's friends has been staying with us since December, and we've been happily getting along. Ha. Well. Not as of this past weekend we're not. Not even loving close.

Last December, this woman, Shawn, broke up with her boyfriend shortly after meeting us. She talked about all of this crap he'd been doing, and she didn't want to be with him anymore. He then accused her of stealing money from him, after he lent her his checkbook to pay bills while he was on a business trip. Well, she came to stay with us until she could find a house. We laughed and joked about all the stupid things her boyfriend, Warren, had done, and we lived in harmony.

...About a month ago, my mom looked depressed. I asked what was wrong, and she said that that weekeend, while I had been with my dad, (divorced parents.) her and Shawn had fought. Turns out Shawn hasn't been paying my mom rent. Well, things went back to being rather smooth for awhile, but this Sunday, the bomb-shell hit.

Shawn decided this weekend that she's going to move out next weekend. Only a few problems. Firstly, she still hasn't payed rent. Second, she apparently told my mom that she had sold a diamond she had asked her to sell, but she hasn't been coughing up the 7 grand she was paid for it. Third, things in our house are missing. My mom thought she lost a folder for our school Robotics team last week, but now we assume that Shawn took it, because there was cash inside. My mom is missing a diamond ring from her second marriage as well, and so we've got a bad feeling that Shawn is trying to steal things from us before she leaves. Lastly, she told my mom that she's going to pay her the money she owes, but not all of it, because of a few reasons, including that she "needs $1,500 to move". Best part is that she told my mom when she first broke up with Warren that that's the same "bullstuff" that she gave him.

My mom called Warren today, it was the first time they'd spoken personally. Warren explained everything that had actually happened during the time they were together, and everything is finally fitting together.

Our guess is simple.

Shawn is a scam artist.

She also seems to have picked a new target. Today, a man by the name of Greg called and left a message. He said,

Quote from: Greg
Hey, Shawn, it's Greg! Just wanted to see how my roommate is doing! Call me back! Bye!

Shawn listened to the message when she returned today from work, and deleted it after hearing "it's Greg!". Funny thing about her "work" as well.

It doesn't exist.

My mom searched all over the Yellow Pages, information on the phone, and the internet. Even Warren thought it was what she told us.

I'm locking up my stuff tonight in my safe. My uncle is going to be stopping by at random points in the day to "fix stuff".

I'm starting to stuff bricks. If any of my stuff goes missing, I'm going to let her have a piece of my mind. She always acts so kindly to me, I assume she doesn't know I know what's been going on. I also think she wants me to think she's still the "good guy".

Well, that's all I have to say. Just wanted to get that down somewhere, it's a load off of my mind. I just can't believe how she played us. You just can't trust anyone anymore. Dammit.

tl;dr - Read it, starfish. It's interesting.

Take her to court. I would be able to understand her not being able to pay it all back, but she's stealing stuff too.

Huh... thats not good.

I can't believe I wasted time in reading that :/  Setup a goddamn security system or cameras or some stuff, dude.  Oh, and you live with your mom :D

It's lawsuit time.

Just report her to the police. That crap she's doing is a serious crime.

Wow. Crazy bitch. Time to sue her I guess.

Maybe, just maybe, she is a criminal that got some cloths smuggled in her cell and then went to the bathroom, got on the cloths, then happily went out for another person to scam.

stuff, set up some hidden camcorders. That way you have actual proof and she's going to jail. Make the bait a lot of cash lying on a counter or something.

She'll only be here another 4-6 days.

Oh, and you live with your mom :D

I'm 15.

Wow. Does she have a car, or something else to stash that stuff? And also, directly talk to your mom. My brother had taken some of my things before going to college, so she asked him to put all of his stuff in the hall, and that night, we looked through it all, and found it. Might help. Oh, and the cops could help too.

Really. Go sue her. Get that warren on your side, and that should be enough.

Yay thinking the same thing!

Excellent idea!

Reminds me of this bitch that used to live with my brother, until she stole his credit cards while he was out on a bowling tournament across the country with my father.  :cookieMonster:
