Changing the master server so that servers he knows use it won't be added to the server list, so we won't see them. They won't even be dead; they will be completely gone.

No, you can still host. You just have to tell everyone your IP and Password. He is simply not allowing it to show up on the internet games list. That is assuming that it is similar to valve's way of delisting things.
