Author Topic: Computer freezes randomly  (Read 2088 times)

Prior to today, I haven't had any troubles with my computer whatsoever. However, starting earlier today, the computer started to freeze up, and I would be forced to restart it. It doesn't freeze unless I'm playing a game, which leads me to believe that something is overheating.

I got a BSOD once, but the computer restarted before I could gather any information from it. Also, I don't have any problems if I run Windows in safe mode. I would ask for help on a tech support forum, but it seems there are a few who are quite knowledgeable about computers here.

I'm not sure which specs would be pertinent to this, so just tell me what to post, and I'll find that information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your GPU could be dying. Safe mode uses only the core drivers, so it does not use your graphics cards. When your computer is running, are there any visual "glitches" on the screen?

It can be your graphics card dying out or overheating.

What card do you have and how long have you had it?

I don't see any visual glitches. The computer seems to behave normally until it freezes up.

The computer's relatively new; we bought it sometime last year.
The graphics card is an Intel GMA 3100.

Hm, and it crashes only during 3D applications?

I'm not quite sure what all causes it to crash. So far it's only happened while I'm playing Blockland.

And any bluescreens?

In my personal experience, I had a 1GB stick of RAM go bad and my 6800XT died. Removing the 1GB stick solved the problem for a few games, but it still BSOD'd on a few games.

So far I haven't had it more than once.

If you can I'd try and get support from Intel by contacting them and trying to work out the solution.

If all else fails, get a new graphics card.

Got another BSOD. I was able to record the following error message.

ram going stuffty does this stuff to.
and many times you would only see it in a game.

run a memtest also

fan=broken I don't know I'm not a rocket scientist

No, the fan is fine. I downloaded speedfan, and the fan and processor are fine.
