I like the turret idea, but maybe also have seats inside besides the driver? Maybe a little living quarter in the back.

how about a turret on the inside on the rear end that shoots out. Like a bunker turret.

Like you have a frame picture of the ship (snapshot from the modeling program) and some small hardpoints. You could click and drag what turret you want where and spawn the vehicle with them. Would be pretty awesome.

I'm thinking we could do that, but it might need to be a player type, you know, like the avatar customize screen, you can change the models.

Yeah I forgot about that, and you'd have each slot displayed there and everything, just click them and you get a list of available parts.

The major difference is it won't only be aesthetic, different parts will have different functions and no parts would simply leave the thing blank.
