Since this really isn't showing off a build, it wouldn't go in gallery and I couldn't find a better place to put it.

I've recently came up with a new idea for "Manual Lighting" where you manually paint blocks to make it look like they're being lit by a light source, which means you can do manual ambient occlusion, manual shadows, and if you're up for it, manual volumetric lighting. Of course, this will take time, and probably lots of it. I've put together a small build to show a very basic version done with the default paint set, although you could make it look a lot better I imagine.

Me and Jirue implemented an idea like that some time ago in one of Jirue's builds. It works well.

Could I get a save of that, or is it private?

Talk to Jirue about that, he kicked me repetitively after I finished that part and finally I said "forget it" and gave up.

I think he was talking to the OP there.

I think that's terrible looking.  Not enough colors to do that.

Yeah, i dont really think that it looks like actual shadowing. You need a fair few more colours for that really, and even then, they need to be able to change shade more frequently, not just 1 cube each time. Its a nice concept, but that just doesn't look how you're describing it should.

You mean the Light thing for his GLaDos Build?

No his airboat track thing

Eh I don't think its really worth the effort.

Pretty sure it was this.

And most of the time, normal lights look better.
