Author Topic: Looking for a $1500+ laptop  (Read 2188 times)

Well, I've always wanted a laptop for school, and then I came across the Educational tax refund that the Australian government has.

I'm eligible for the refund, and can get 50% back when the item is over $1500. I'm not too good at searching for this (Don't know where to look). So, I'm wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

Please note I'm in Australia - so if you could find anything Australian, it would make the whole process a lot easier ;)

What I'm looking for:
Something value for money,
Good for school work, and light gaming,
Not too outdated,
A tablet laptop would be nice (Although a normal one would do fine)

Thanks!

For that much, you could get quite a good gaming one.

Link to one in australia :p

Erh, I'll look into it. Is it $1500 US or Australian?

Australian :p

So I need to find one more than $1164 US...

I'd rather it was an australian product, in australia, and in australian currency. Otherwise I don't know how claiming it goes.

I don't really know of any Australian manufacturers.

Search Ebay for some good ones :D

Depends if you can buy from a reseller, if you can't then you're really stuck with Education specific laptops which pretty much ass.

Also have you read through this properly? I mean one things I found pretty much instantly is "an item that is specified in the legislation as an eligible education expense", is it? Do you NEED one? Do you already HAVE a computer? The idea of these programs is for students without such products.

I know that, I have actually looked into it, And I'm not trying to abuse the system. Plus yeh, laptops are covered, so are usbs, software, books, etc.

And I did search on ebay, but I wasn't sure if that was the best place to look.

You wanted a $1500+ laptop, and I have the perfect suggestion: get a Mac. If you want a PC with higher performance it will most likely cost about half that much.

I don't really want a mac :p, I'm a linux guy myself.

And I don't really want a higher performance pc - Because this refund scheme is for educational items (Which is why I want a laptop)

I did have a look at this which doesn't seem too bad. I'm just not sure if it's value for money though.

Bump for really needing assistance :s

Anyway, I need to go to school now ;)
