Author Topic: New computer?  (Read 2342 times)

My current computer is bad, I need something more powerful for my gaming. I really want a laptop, but the prices are high for anything that doesn't suck. Desktops look like the solution, but I really can't take them places, so that is bad. I don't want to build something unless it saves me like hundreds of dollars or something.

Not going to happen, unless you want to shell out for a Dell XPS or  alienware.

About $1000 on a desktop should get you all you need to play the newest stuff but 2 or 3 years from now will only hit the minimum requirements of the new games (if industry trends continue as they have been).

I'm not running crysis or something, just like HL2 or Garrys mod.

Don't get a laptop.

Build your own PC. Desktop..
BUT DONT DO IT AT FRYS.

Ahem... As i was saying..

I just built a PC for about the following..

Mother Board ----$50
AMD x4 920 ----$190
Barbone PC/case ----$20
RAM (2 2gig cards) ----$40
Nvidia 9500 GT ----$60
hardrive(160gig) ----$30

Monitor --- 100$

Total: $490

And its wayyy better than a loving lap top that would cost around... 900$?

Ah, in that case an $700-$800 laptop should get you somewhere around 100-200 gigs of HD space, a dual core 1.7 or better and at least a gig or ram.

for Garry's mod you'll need more than that, 2.2 dual core should do it and a good amount of video memory (this should still be less than $1000).

As for what video card, you'll be stuck with whatever is in what you buy because they can't be changed, the problem there is that good video cards only come in good (expensive) laptops.

Because of the video card problem in laptops you are much better off getting a desktop.

Desktop with small portable case?

BUT DONT DO IT AT FRYS.
What are you talking about?
So, your computer had faulty parts. You can't blame Fry's for that. You can blame the people who made the actual part(s) that were faulty. In fact, Fry's has probably the best support team, too.

Desktop with small portable case?
HP had that, but I heard it wasn't good.

Desktop with small portable case?

As long as the cooling is adequate, go for it.

How about a LAN case?
Where can I get those? I was also looking at the Toshiba L305. 4gb of ram, dual core intel processer, and only $430 :D

They used a credit card to fix my processor.... A credit card..

They are just over all unprofessional.

Also, if they are the best support team.. I feel kinda scared to go anywhere else.

Well, if it fixed it, why are you complaining?

The best tool for fixing bent pins is a mechanical pencil.

Also, if you bend a pin while trying to install the processor, it's your fault, not the manufacturer's.
