Author Topic: Getting a new Wireless ADSL2+ Router  (Read 904 times)

Well I'd like to get some Router names off people, I'm mainly looking for an ASDL2+ that supports Blockland hosting, I use Torque in ZW and BL and it drives me mad that I can't host for them.

My hosting provider sells a few routers
https://secure.internode.on.net/webtools/store (Click Hardware at top of list)
does anyone know if they're any good?

So a Wireless ADSL2+ router would be epic, I'm looking around $235 USD as a max price, any suggestions would be great :D

I don't know which routers are better then others, but I have Linksys and it works fine for hosting.

I'll probably just have to look around myself, no idea what works or not.

I wouldn't get one of the ones they offer. They appear to be rubbish.

Linksys (owned by Cisco) would be my top pick. Not difficult at all to configure the ports. Relatively inexpensive too unless you go for the premium-N edition. We sell most of the range at office max. Belkin is another option as is D-link.

dude, you can get a top of the line for like 100$

Mine can forwards parts easily, and is wireless N. $98 at Frys

i wouldn't get netgear, for some reason i can't forward my ports :/

At least you don't have a 2700HG-E  2wire router. I can't forword meh ports.

Off-Topic: DSi screen flashed black during typing. Should I be concerned?

EDIT: Fixed router name.

We're talking about Australia here, everything is overpriced.

So Linksys you guys suggest?

Thats only wireless G which will work if you don't have an internet  speed greater than 54Mbps and/or you aren't moving tons of files over your LAN network.

--------------------------

I will now take some time to describe what your internet speed REALLY is.  (I think bisjac did this a while ago in a speedtest thread)

Your internet speed is given to you in Bits per second, not bytes per second.  Every byte is made up of 8 bits (a bit is a 0 or a 1).
So if you have an 8mbps (megabits per second) connection and you want to download an 8 mb (megabyte) file, it would take you 8 seconds because your internet speed is 1 megabyte per second.

Its the best LinkSys I can buy in Australia. As long as it does it's job it should be right.

I suggest D-Link. They're pretty good, I've been using them. Just replaced my old one with a shiny new one.
