Author Topic: 2012 Real or just Myth?  (Read 8848 times)

2012 doesn't exist.
The entire year will just be nothing and will skip straight to 2013.

You're the 3rd person to say that.

Congradulovinglations.

ok first thing you can find what ever you want to find any any book you want.. all the things on the history channel about how people find hints in the bible about the end of the world is just crap also Nostradamus is handicapped... he didnt predict anything

the real reason people think the world will end in 2012 is because of a Mayan prophecy that states in 2012 the sun and the earth will align with the center of the galaxy destroying our world

My thoughts on the matter:

I don't think that Christians and other people of religion are idiots. My own mother believes in Ahura Mazda, the Zoroastrian term for God. I am by blood a Zoroastrian, and I had my navjot (religious ceremony where I turn into an adult, like a barmitzvah). I memorized prayers in a language I can't even speak, and I trusted in them for a long time. But then I began to think about things, and learn things. God seemed less and less likely, and so I changed my views on the Universe. Zoroastrianism (aka Zarathustrianism) has very few followers left in the world, and I want to preserve it for my children. I will let them choose their own truths, so that this ancient religion can be preserved, even if I do not believe in it.

Sorry about rambling there guys, I just had this on my mind.

Wat. You made that up.

Wat. You made that up.

Zoroastrianism.

Unless the great Wiki is wrong...

There has been multiple times when ppl have tryed to predict the end of the world.  Currently all of them have been proven wrong (duh).  I don' know if this one is real or not.  Why even predict the end, why not enjoy what we may have left.

-edit:  I do remember in the Bible (if you even care) it states that the end will creep up on us and noone will expect it.

I'm excited for the moment when religious extremists are either locked in their houses praying or outside partying like it's the end of the world, then the year passes and we're all still alive.

I'll be laughing until tears burst from my eyes.

It'll be like Y2k, when all the computers would die because the date was binary code (1/1/00) and the world would end, but NOTHING WILL HAPPEN (I hope) Of Course I was too young to remember New Years 2000. Oh, and just for your information, it isn't "the end of the world," It's just a new era (pertaining to the Mayan calendar) we will enter a "new age" it states, and we will all go back to the stone age, and have to re-build our technology and civilization, so basically the end of the world for everyone reading this.

I think the Chinese will end the world: Fact- if every person in china stood on a chair and jumped off at the same time, it could knock earth out of it's orbit!

And that is how everyone will die... By slowly floating farther into space until we hit something, or die from the cold because we are too far away from the sun. Well that is the scientific veiw... Sort of...

Remember this important thing.

Mayans Can't Predict Future.

MCPF!

holy crap i never relized that

Mayans can't predict future.
we know,
people have been watching too much sci-fi if they think the world will end because of that stupid calendar.

Wat. You made that up.

Way to be an ignorant little stuff.

WRONG. I love science ;D, Assuming a population of 1.2 billion Chinese weighting an average fo 150 poungs (68 Kilograms) each their collective jump would strike the earth with 1.6 trillion joules. That is the force of a earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale. Earthquakes of that magitude have been happening for a very long time. This planet continues circling the sun with a force called momentum.

Even if EVERYONE jumped at the same time the force would be irrelevant. If 1,000 billion people jumped in china, and 1,000 billion jumped in U.S.A, the force would meet in the center of the earth, cuasing nothing other never thousands of nasty earthquakes.

But then it wouldn't matter, with THAT many people I would want to be dead anyhow.

The world won't end 2012, the sanity of human's will however.

Real or myth?

What the heck are you talking about...?

Quote
In the context of this tradition then, the Winter Solstice on December 21 was celebrated as the Sun’s birthday. It is the longest night of the year and therefore the shortest day of the year. It represented the ultimate power of the dark forces of Nature: the long winter night when things appeared to be dead and still. And out of the depths of this longest night the new Sun was born. From this point on, the power of the light grows in strength and the days slowly begin to grow longer

The auspicious year of 2012 indicated in the long count calendar illuminates the fact that the Precessional movement of the Winter Solstice Sun will gradually bring its position into alignment with the very center of our Galaxy. For the Maya, this is like the last stroke of Midnight on New Year’s Eve, only in 2012 the New Year is the New Galactic Year of 26,000 solar years. The Galactic Clock will be at zero point and a New Precessional Cycle will begin.

These are (more or less) facts... All of the rumors and speculation come from what will happen because of this. All of you who have mentioned (or posted that comic) about the Mayan calendar ending because they "had to stop somewhere" are misinformed idiots. As quoted above the date marks the end of the Galatic year because the alignment will be back to it's starting position.

People who say the Mayan calendar marks the end of life are just making assumptions/guesses. Something could happen, but I doubt it.
